Thank you for visiting us. Let me tell you more about YACAN CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES.
VISION
Our vision is to Glorify God by partnering with people who desire to serve children at risk who are victims of natural disasters, extreme poverty, abuse and persecution in Indonesia and South East Asia. By partnering with our sponsors we are able to reach out to more children in difficult circumstances. We hope to enrich their lives, help them to continue their education and learn about the grace of our Lord Jesus.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to search out and identify orphans and children at risk in Indonesia and South East Asia. We strive to connect these children with caring and loving sponsors who will assist them by enabling loving and mature care givers to assist the children according to their needs. We do this by utilizing national workers to assist us to give these children every possible opportunity to heal, excel in education and improve their living conditions in order to achieve their highest aspirations. We desire to provide an environment of love, hope and joy empowering these children to become the future leaders of their communities.
WHO WE ARE
YACAN (Yayasan Adonai Cinta Anak Nusantara: Father God loves the children of South East Asia) children’s ministries was started as a direct response to the giant tsunami that struck Indonesia on December 26th, 2004. A 9.1 richter scale earthquake deep under the sea to the west of the island of Sumatra Indonesia caused a tsunami of over 30 meters tall to strike the coastline of Sumatra island. with lethal force, houses, schools, buildings in the main town of Banda Aceh were virtually wiped of the earth as the wave pushed inland. Millions were displaced and over 230,000 people died in Indonesia alone.
Jim and Mena were living in Malaysia at the time of the earthquake and started traveling into the area of North Sumatra Island in early 2005, working to help children who had lost their parents and families. YACAN was formed with friends on October 17th 2005 with the purpose of helping these tsunami victims. A Children’s home was also started in Medan, North Sumatra province with 8 children.
Today we continue to support children who are victims of natural disasters, poverty, abuse and religious persecution. We have grown to include four projects in Aceh as well as a children’s home in Deli Tua and a school project in Papua Indonesia.
